George John Townsend, son of John and Mary, was baptised at Alverstoke March 1805. I would like to know more about the area and possible occupations for John, who as far as I can tell was not a local to the area. The family had moved to Newmarket, Suffolk by 1811. George John married Mary Johnson (around 1826) in Birmingham and then went to Coventry. Sny help about the family or the Alverstoke area would be greatly appreciated.

I'm Sue, researching mainly TOWNSEND which is my family name. Other names connected are DUDLEY, INGRAM, GREEN, KING, SMITH, WELCH, JOHNSON. I am also researching WARD, WILKINS, PAINTER, TROOP, MANGER, KIMBERLEY, (and a few others going way back) and WHITE, or WATSON WHITE, ROE, CARTER, MIDDLETON, FALLOWS, HOLLAND. CLARK(E). TAYLOR, BANBURY, LEAVESLEY, ATKINS, JUDD, DODD, ADAMS. My family are mainly from Coventry and have been for a very long time. The only exceptions are JOHN DUDLEY (SHEFFIELD), ISABELLA PAINTER (Astley Abbotts), GEORGE TOWNSEND (ALVERSTOKE), MARY SMITH (IRELAND), WHITE (OR WATSON WHITE or WATSON) (villages around COVENTRY/NUNEATON area). The families did not stray far. As far as I know 3 ward Brothers emigrated in the 1880s to BROCKTON MASS and PATERSON NJ. Also DoriS DODD and her son (either TONY or PETER) ADAMS emigrated to AUSTRALIA, probably in the 1950s.CHARLES WARD, after service in the COLDSTREAM GUARDS in the BOER WAR, moved to YORKSHIRE and joined the Police Force. JESSIE KENNING went to Cambridge University and MAVIS BROWN went to Birmingham University (cousins on the WHITE/WATSON WHITE side) and both became headmistresses. Mavis had a daughter, whose name I don't know, who went to KINGS HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS WARWICK starting there the year I finished. Anyone wishing to contact and swap notes would be welcomed.
